The pursuit of happiness…

It’s “Happy Wednesday”, so I’m thinking today about things that make me happy.

Some of these things are obvious:

• when any of my children smile…and no matter how big they get, to me they still look 3.
• when byron says i still look like i did 20 years ago…even though he misplaces his glasses on a regular basis.
• when a friend sees my shortcomings and faults, but chooses to like (not just love) me anyway.
• all holidays…especially thanksgiving and christmas.

(I said some were obvious!)

And some are more personal and random:

• scoring an “excellent” or higher on the vocab. quiz in the reader’s digest.
• scoring above “just plain stupid” on the triangle game at cracker barrel.
• finding a new color of rose bush…and getting it in the ground before it dies.
• taking a beautiful photograph…even if no one else sees the beauty but me.
• being able to be quiet and witness the silence…the brief moment between when the noise of the day ends and the sounds of the evening begin.
• being dressed-up and “sparkly” on sunday morning, and not being recognizable as the same person on monday.
• being loud and flamboyant - ready to fight the world…and knowing i’ll win.
• being soft and quiet - ready to listen and write a poem to express my feelings.
• spending time with my girls, and watching them develop their own areas of happiness…when they are similar to mine…but, especially when they’re not.
• spending time with my boys…when my 10 year old acts like a protective little man, and my 6 year old looks at me like i’m pretty.
• when byron asks for my advice…whether he uses it or not - but especially when he does.
• when my dogs want my attention more than anything else.
• hearing a great new blonde joke…especially one that doesn’t resemble something i’ve done or said…or especially when it’s exactly like something i’ve done or said.
• knowing that peacefulness is more beautiful than beauty that’s not at peace…
• peace.

So many things make me happy. This blog makes me happy. When others read and contribute…from their heart, it makes me happy.

Happy Wednesdays make me happy, too. Of course, happiness is more about perspective than anything else…

So, today I choose to be happy…it’s Happy Wednesday, after all!
Besides, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner (I’m gonna go buy a new cinnamon scented broom…they make me happy, too!).
