So, Ethan has officially finished reading - by himself - his very first “chapter book”. When he got done, he said, “Since I just read ‘Junie B., First Grader’ all by myself, reading the Bible should be no problem!”.
Of course, we were thrilled by his interest to read the Bible, but we didn’t really get the full picture….
….until this morning.
He came in with his funky bag from Jerusalem and his Bible and announced, “I’m taking my Bible to school today so I can finish reading it. I’m on page eleven!” He, then, put his Bible in his funky Jerusalem bag (which he had taken to school yesterday, and some kids made fun of….So, I thought he wouldn’t ever take it again - but…well, that’s Ethan! Actually, that’s all of my kids…
)
Recently, one of the adults at Nate’s school asked him what his “Barbaric Grace” shirt meant. (He wears a C3 shirt EVERY day!) He said, “I don’t know.” (He confessed to us that he did know what it meant, but he could tell that this adult didn’t really want to know…) This person told him, “I guess you better go home and tell your Dad that you don’t know what that means.” The next day, he worked up his courage, walked up to her and gave her a full explanation of what the phrase means…to him. When the “LOVE WINS” shirts came in, he asked for one to wear to school. I guess he thought that even someone who “doesn’t really want to know” could figure that shirt out.
I love how strong my kids are…in their own, individual way. They have a way of breaking through all the pretense of life…they keep things very real.
I wonder how long it will take Ethan before he realizes that the Bible is a little more difficult read than “Junie B., First Grader”? I’m thinking at least by Leviticus….
I can’t wait ’til he gets home and tells me about his day. It’s always interesting! ![]()
Peace out.

Your Ethan story cracks me up…too funny! By the way, I love his bible bag!
Thanks, ‘Manda Lou. He’s still plugging away…
If we started a competition between him and Emma, they’d both read the Bible in record time…even if they didn’t understand any of what they read. They are so cute to watch.
Have a great one. Peace out.
I’m thinking it will be somewhere in Genesis or Exodus when he discovers how dysfunctional Jacobs family was… Oh wait, that’s my family too!!!
