Out of the Ghostlands…

I saw some of the movie “Troy” yesterday. Of course, it was full of beautiful cinematography and fantastic, dramatic fight scenes.

But, the most moving thing was one quiet scene. It was in something Helen says to Paris:

Paris: Pearls from the sea of Propontus.
Helen: They’re beautiful, but I could never wear them, Menelaus would kill us both.
Paris: Don’t be afraid of him.
Helen: I’m not afraid of dying, I’m afraid of tomorrow. I’m afraid of watching you sail away and knowing you’ll never come back. Before you came to Sparta, I was a ghost. I walked and I ate and I swam in the sea… but, I was just a ghost.
Paris: You don’t have to fear tomorrow… come with me!
Helen: Don’t play with me, don’t play.
Paris: If you come, we’ll never be safe. Men will hunt us, the gods will curse us, but I’ll love you. Until the day they burn my body, I’ll love you.

She says, “I walked and I ate and I swam in the sea… but, I was just a ghost.”We’re all like that until we know true love, aren’t we? Just ghosts…shells of the ones we would be - should be - if we only knew real love. This is the love that Christ offers us - a love that leads us out of the ghostlands and into real life. And The Enemy will never stop hunting us, people will curse us - and Christ, but His love goes on…even beyond death. His love is what epics and novels and fairy-tales try so hard to capture and emulate. He is the standard. When we embrace the love of The One who made us, died for us, and knows us like no one else, it is then that we become real - we leave the ghostlands behind forever…Sometimes when we get discouraged, we can head back toward the past - the ghostlands - we can think we deserve nothing more. But this is a lie. We are loved and prized above all created things.

We - I - just need to remember this from time to time…

…so that we never return to only “walking, eating and swimming”, but really only being ghosts - merely shadows - of all that we were meant to be.

Love is always the way out…

Graceful Barbarians

I’ve spent some time, last night and this morning, adding photos to the “Women of C3″ album page. As I have been looking at the photos, I have been inspired and have often become emotional about what I see - and what it represents…

Because I’m on the platform in both services just about every week, I rarely get to see what’s going on in the other services and all of the other places that work is being done (ie: the lobby, the nursery, Powerhouse, etc.). I know how much work goes into doing all that we do every weekend, but seeing the faces and the heart behind the work really moved me.

All that my C3 sisters do, how they love, how they serve - their passion and heart for God, for others, for C3 - it all inspires, moves and humbles me.

I love these women…these Graceful Barbarians - I love them and I thank them for being…

gracefully brave in the fight for love.

They know, as I do, that…

Love Wins - Always.

Look at the faces of the ones who are learning from us, and tell me it’s not worth it! :-)

beautiful little barbarians in training

Beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

Thank you all - C U At C3!

Peace.

So, Now It’s Monday…

…and I feel like I thought I would - like a zombie!

Yesterday was awesome. I’m still working on pics from Saturday and Sunday - a few of them are already on the “C3 ROCKS” page, and there are more on the “Women of C3″ blog.

So many people had great things to say about our first service in the theaters. Of course, Byron had some things to say - and then Barry Leather said this.

Darrell had this to say in his blog. And Ali said this about her family’s experience.

Music moves me. All night, the words to one of the songs we sang yesterday played over and over in my head.

“Closer” (by Charlie Hall):

Beautiful are the words spoken to me
Beautiful is the one who is speaking

Come in close, come in close and speak
Come in close, come closer to me

The power of Your words
are filled with grace and mercy
Let them fall on my ears and break my stony heart

Come in close, come in close and speak
Come in close, come closer to me…

For me, yesterday was about grace and mercy - and the power of the Words of God! Now I just need Him to come in closer, closer…and give me - give all of us the strength to keep up this pace.

So, today I’ll rest so that after this week of work, we can do it all over again next Sunday. I’m exhausted - but, the truth is, I can’t wait!

Because, “…beautiful are the words spoken to me” - and “beautiful is the One who is speaking”!

Peace and rest to you.
