How do you deal?

I have a lot of thoughts today…go figure!  Here are a few:

  • I love it when I feel like my kids need me…it feeds my ego - but, when they start to cry (especially when they’re only seven and they’re trying so hard to be brave), when they start to cry, it paralyzes me…Ethan said, “Please take me home Mommy…” - because things were so chaotic at school this morning when I dropped him off.  I just got myself a visitor’s badge and stayed until he was okay.  Good thing his class is filled with cute girls or I might still be there!
  • Sideways rain, hot coffee and an umbrella in high wind is a recipe for disaster…or at least some comic relief for onlookers…
  • If you own a home that you are leasing, and you have a company “managing” it for you - you might want to check into how well they are managing it…especially with storms like Central Florida has hadjust a thought.  There are some pretty unscrupulous real estate/management companies in Orlando…Byron and I have had a good deal of experience with this - and are happy to share the knowledge we’ve…acquired.  (FYI)
  • I just read a blog - written by another pastor’s wife - she shares her recent experience with the ugly side of all that comes with being in the ministry…mainly the judgments some Christians put on you when you’re the wife of a pastor.  I’ve added Brandi to my blogroll so check her out.
  • I am now so blessed to be surrounded by such encouragement and support - from the other C3 pastor’s wives, to the staff, to the membership…and even the seekers.  I remember what it felt like to live with constant judgment and expectation - but, now, it’s like a slap in the face when I observe or experience this because it’s so absent from my world.  At C3, we have the privilege to be ourselves - and so many Christians loathe this freedom when they see it.
  • When you live in bondage, you can’t stand to see others live in freedom - I remember one person saying to me, “Angie, your problem is that you just don’t care enough what people think of you!”…really?  Gaining freedom has cost me more than I could’ve ever imagined, but it’s so worth it…

Anyway, there are just a few of my thoughts…please keep sharing yours with me.

Peace…

Junie B., Bible Bags, and Barbaric Grace

So, Ethan has officially finished reading - by himself - his very first “chapter book”. When he got done, he said, “Since I just read ‘Junie B., First Grader’ all by myself, reading the Bible should be no problem!”.

Of course, we were thrilled by his interest to read the Bible, but we didn’t really get the full picture….

….until this morning.

He came in with his funky bag from Jerusalem and his Bible and announced, “I’m taking my Bible to school today so I can finish reading it. I’m on page eleven!” He, then, put his Bible in his funky Jerusalem bag (which he had taken to school yesterday, and some kids made fun of….So, I thought he wouldn’t ever take it again - but…well, that’s Ethan! Actually, that’s all of my kids… :-) )

Recently, one of the adults at Nate’s school asked him what his “Barbaric Grace” shirt meant. (He wears a C3 shirt EVERY day!) He said, “I don’t know.” (He confessed to us that he did know what it meant, but he could tell that this adult didn’t really want to know…) This person told him, “I guess you better go home and tell your Dad that you don’t know what that means.” The next day, he worked up his courage, walked up to her and gave her a full explanation of what the phrase means…to him. When the “LOVE WINS” shirts came in, he asked for one to wear to school. I guess he thought that even someone who “doesn’t really want to know” could figure that shirt out.

I love how strong my kids are…in their own, individual way. They have a way of breaking through all the pretense of life…they keep things very real.

I wonder how long it will take Ethan before he realizes that the Bible is a little more difficult read than “Junie B., First Grader”? I’m thinking at least by Leviticus….

I can’t wait ’til he gets home and tells me about his day. It’s always interesting! :-)
Peace out.

Planning Ahead…

…so, at dinner we were chatting with the kids about random stuff:

Byron: “Ethan, which would you choose for a pet?: a bird, or…

Ethan: (enthusiastically) “…or A WIFE?”

My Boys & Me

There’s a breakdown in communication somewhere - but since he’s six, he can get away with it. At least he has a happy outlook on marriage! I mean, what spells L-O-V-E to a six year old boy more than a pet? :-) We’ll keep working on the finer details…

Peace.

Running Toward Tomorrow…

My Ethan knows how to face tomorrow…

Running toward tomorrow…

…running - not looking back…full throttle!

Thanks for the reminder, Buddy. I’m right behind you.

(peace.)
